Dromore Fourths fight back to win

The Dromore Ladies 4th Xl faced a strong Cookstown side in their opening match, and had to defend and attack stoutly.

Eventually the pressure told and Cookstown managed to break through 1-0.

However, Dromore got their heads back in the game and won short corner with Keira Walker scoring a textbook goal into the far corner.

Midfielders Megan Mclean, Sarah Percy and Jenny thompson fought for every ball and created numerous opportunities.

Defence had a strong line out with Erin leeper, Jillian Wilson, Helen Cantley and Jemma Burns making strong tackles and foiling their opponents, but unfortunately Cookstown went on to score their second goal.

Dromore continued to fight back and Rachel Nelson went on to score Dromore’s second with a Sarah Percy making an excellent assist.

Moments then before half time Ashton Tolerton made a good run into the semi-circle to receive a strong ball from Helen Cantley and scored the 3rd. Heads were high at the start of the second half with Ellen Wright and Emily Martin coming on into defence. Both read the game well and fought for every ball.

Ellen Wright showed great individual play resulting in balls being fed into the circle to forwards Kiera Walker and Rachel Nelson both fell short with some good saves from cookstowns goalkeeper.

Dromore won another short and Ellen got the 4th and winning goal.

Two minutes before the final whistle Cookstown broke through and scored their third goal. Resulting in a 4-3 win to Dromore.

Thanks to Lynne Nesbit and Hannah Russell for umpiring and to Kiera Barlow and Zara McNally in Goals, both made excellent saves.

Megan McClean and Ashton Tolerton were a real asset to the game today with their skilful play and both read the game really well.

Player of match went to Erin Leeper for her determination, fighting for the ball and skilful tackles to win the ball from her opponents.
