Dromore hit the half ton at Barban Hill

Groundsman John McClelland and a band of helpers did an great job on making a wet pitch playable for the young Dromore side.

The locals kicked off with the wind at their backs and made an immediate impression attacking from the off, a line out drive resulted in an early try for Harshaw which was converted by Steenson.

Dromore looked hungry and where dominating in all phases of play, a well worked ball to McDonald on the wing saw him speed over from 30 yards which was matched by his opposite wing Jenks moments later after good work by Mickey Allen.

They ended the half by scoring the bonus point try again through Harshaw after another great driving maul by the pack, leaving Dromore 24-0 ahead at the break.

The second half saw Dromore attack again, with half backs Steenson and Russell keeping the pack on the front foot by some fine kicking, Harshaw again got the touch down for the next try giving him his first career hat trick.

Two further tries followed by the impressive Gareth Fitzpatrick, before UUC broke through the Dromore defence to register their first try of the afternoon.

Dromore continued to press forward and it was an interception by Aaron “Budgie” Stewart that finished off the scoring and brought up the half century for the Dromore team.

Coach Bekker was beaming after the match. “I was nervous about this match but after the first 10 minutes I realised we were going to be ok.

“I was impressed with how we kept our shape today in an open match and Sammy Russell was excellent in following our game plan which kept us moving forward at all time.

“Eight tries in a league match was very pleasing and I was happy for Harshaw getting a hat trick as he has been one of our unsung heroes this year.

“Hopefully those five points will move us up the log and get us into the top four for the first time this year”

Dromore now focus their attentions next week to the Towns Cup. They travel to Ballyclare next Saturdayt for a quarter final tie.
