Dromore Ladies first team start season with a well earned victory

An excellent team performance by Dromore Ladies 1s led to an away victory over Carrick, and three points to start off what looks to be a successful season. With several new faces to the team, and as their first match under the leadership of Coach Johnny McBride, the 2:1 win was particularly pleasing.

Play started with all Dromore players having a strong input. Carrick were quick to try and find channels down the wings, but with some great defensive play from Amy Forsythe and Janine Davis, the ball stayed clear of Dromore’s circle and was soon returned to Emma Cochrane or Nicky Wilson in midfield.

Unfortunately, the Carrick goalkeeper was on fine form and denied several goals even after strong play from Dromore’s attacking players. Nonetheless, she was caught off-guard when Hannah Russell found space at the top of the circle and sent a superb ball towards Ana Clarke waiting on the post, who chipped it swiftly into the back of the net.

After such a strong first half, the girls were eager for more goals and continued to put Carrick under pressure.

However, the opponents managed to keep pushing forward and were eventually awarded a short corner in Dromore’s circle. Defence worked well together to save the first shot at goal, but after a Carrick rebound the ball found its way into the bottom left corner.

Captain Tara Malcolmson kept defence organised, and the ball was soon returned to Carrick’s circle with a super run and display of skills from Chelsey Whan. Her hard work paid off when she got a straight strike at goal and brought the score to 2:1, ending the team’s first game on a high and with strong hopes for the future.
