Dromore of the same as Whites ease to win

Barry Browne’s rink of Nigel Beggs, John O’Kane and Philip Weir got off to a steady start and kept the pressure on their opponents throughout. They led 9-4 after 10 ends.

All the scoring in this game was ones and twos until the 12th end, when the visitors scored a four. However, Browne’s men soon hit back, scoring a five on the 15th end to lead 16-9 at that stage. They kept extending their lead right the way through the game, and ran out snug 22-11 winners.

Martin McHugh’s rink of Jack Montgomery, Billy Browne and JR Wilson didn’t let their opposition score until the ninth end, and at that time had scored 16 shots of their own. They then stretched out to a 22-1 lead at 12 ends, after which the visitors slightly bettered the home four, finally ending up on the wrong end of a 30-12 score-line. A dominant show from the home four.

James Caldwell’s rink of Sean Mullen, Andy Rankin and Philip Gilmartin found things much tougher. They led 8-5 after a high scoring first five ends, but were pegged back to 10-10 at the 10-ends mark. The away rink scored four on the 15th end to lead 15-14, and actually went 20-14 up after 17 ends.

Scores of three and four put the home four in front again, but a massive last bowl on the 20th end from skip Billy Clinghan saw a three-shot deficit turn into a three-shot gain. When lying one shot on the last end, Caldwell tried to obtain another shot to tie the game, but only succeeded in turning an opposition bowl in for the shot. Thus they went down 24-21.

Stephen McKinley’s four of Stephen Moran, Pat McRandal and Matthew Crawford dominated for the most part of their game. They led 11-0 at six ends, 17-7 at 12 ends, and finally ran out comfortable 28-14 winners.
