Dromore only take two points off bottom side

DROMORE Seniors had a setback when they travelled to Belfast to take on bottom of Division Two side Maple Leaf, losing by 12 shots and taking only two points.

Rink 1: D Graham, J Elliott, K Aiken, J McKenny.

Rink 2: J Topping, G Ervine, D McCandless, SG Malcomson.

Rink 3: W Paylor, H Hylands, W Clinghan, D Burns.

Rink 4: G Dawson, Andrew Johnston, F Cranney, Alain Johnston.

On a heavy green after so much rain the seniors had made a sluggish start to be down by 11 at the five end mark and with no rinks up. McKenny was down two, SG trailed by five, Burns was losing by three and Johnston by a single.

At the half way stage the margin saw Dromore 16 in arrears. McKenny had tuned things round to lead by three with the other rinks still behind - SG by eight, Burns by seven and Johnston by four.

The seniors had their best spell in the third quarter of the match and were now ahead by two. McKenny had scored nine and conceded none to lead by 12, Johnston had a good five ends and was leading by three, SG was down seven and Burns by six.

In the final six ends the seniors could not keep the pressure on and let the home team take over for a 12-shot victory. McKenny won his game by 11, Johnston had a big finish to romp home by 12, SG was back to his bad habit of losing shots in the run in to be down by 23 and Burns finished 12 in arrears.

This Saturday the seniors are at home to Newtownabbey and Juniors away to Newry.

- After a spell of five losing games Dromore Juniors have broken the run with a good victory at home against Moat Park on Saturday, winning by 35 shots to take seven league points.

Rink 1: T Ogle, R Elliott, H Maxwell, T Wilson.

Rink 2: G Beggs, R Bolton, A Sudlow, I Houston.

Rink 3: N Lindsay, S Dugan, R Malcomson, T Sudlow.

Rink 4: J McCullough, J Black, T Gribben, S Malcomson.

The visitors turned up with only thirteen players which meant that there were three rinks of three and some days this is hard to play against.

After the first quarter was played the hosts had a 12 shot lead. Wilson and Sudlow were ahead by five, Malcomson was three ahead and Houston was down by a single.

In a stern battle 21 was the margin at 10 ends. Wilson was now 10 ahead, Malcomson was at eight, Sudlow was two up with Houston a single ahead.

The hosts were still going strong at three quarter stage, 35 shots ahead. Wilson was 15 in front, Houston was up by 11, Malcomson had the aid of a seven on end 15 while Sudlow was a single in arrears.

The final six ends were even with the juniors running out winners by 35 shots. Wilson was 19 ahead, Houston was 11 to the good, Malcomson was eight ahead and Sudlow lost by three but still got his point as he was up against a three-man rink who lost a quarter of their shots by 4.5.
