Dromore Seniors have a bit to spare in cup tie

AFTER their narrow win over Dungannon in the first round of the NIBA Cup the Dromore seniors had a bit more to spare against Curran in the second round.

Thet gained a 12 shot victory and a third round tie against Newtownabbey at home tomorrow evening (Wednesday) at 6.30pm.

Rink 1: S. Jess, H. Hylands, S.G. Malcomson, A. Johnston.

Rink 2: T. Wilson, R. Greer, D. McCandless, J. McKenny.

Rink 3: R. Wills, G. Dawson, D. Graham, G. Clinghan.

Rink 4: K. Aiken, S. Malcomson, D. Burns, F. Cranney.

There was a three shot lead for the seniors at the five end mark with two rinks ahead. Cranney had raced to a eight shot lead, Clinghan had an advantage of three, McKenny was all square with Johnston eight in the red.

At the halfway mark the seniors were going well to lead by 19. Cranney was still going well at nine ahead, Clinghan had got into top gear to lead by 10, McKenny was leading by four while Johnston was four down.

At three quarter stage the visitors had reduced the Dromore lead to 11. Cranney had been pulled back to lead by five, Clinghan was not getting things his own way with his lead cut to three, McKenny was also ahead by three while Johnston had marshalled his troops to be all square.

The last six ends were almost even with the home team taking the match by 12 with all rinks ahead. Cranney was three to the good, McKenny and Clinghan both finished four ahead and Johnston a single to the good.

Tonight the seniors are away to Portadown in the league and tomorrow are at home to Newtownabbey in the cup. The Saturday league game is at home against Lurgan at 2.00pm

The Dromore juniors, playing at home against Newtownabbey on Saturday last, collected five points in a 17 shot victory.

Rink 1: T Ogle, T Hewitt, I Houston, A Sudlow.

Rink 2: A Clinghan, G McDowell, H Maxwell, T Sudlow.

Rink 3: A Matthews, T Gribben, G Ervine, SG Malcomson.

Rink 4: N Lindsay, C Wilson, J Noddings, S Malcomson.

The juniors made home advantage count in the opening five ends to lead by 15. T Sudlow had opened up a nine shot gap with A Sudlow and S Malcomson both five up. SG was in arrears of four.

The visitors had the better of the next five ends and had cut the home teams lead to nine. T Sudlow was going well to lead by 14, S Malcomson had moved to six ahead, A Sudlow was now all square and SG was trailing by 11.

At the three quarters stage the visitors were not giving up and now were just four behind. T Sudlow’s lead was now down to eight; S Malcomson, with a big six on end 15, had taken some of the sting out of the visitors to lead by 16. A Sudlow was now in the red by eight while SG was still struggling at 12 down.

A good six ends for the home team saw them home with ease to record a 17 shot win. T Sudlow, with Clingham and McDowell at the front end playing well, was eight shots to the good; S Malcomson came home strongly with a big win of 20; A Sudlow fell short of a point, going down by one with SG in the red by 10 at the end.

The Juniors are away to Banbridge tomorrow at 6.30pm in the NIBA Junior Cup and travel to Portadown for a league game at 2pm Saturday next.
