Dromore swimmer Nicky in golden form

DROMORE swimmer Nicky Galloway, who trains with Lisburn City Swimming Club, had a very successful Ulster Youth Championships on March 5-8.

The most prestigious event of the Ulster swimming calendar was held over three days at Lisburn Leisureplex. Competing in the 14 year old age group Nicky was in blistering form taking gold in both the 100m and 200m backstroke and bronze in the 200m freestyle events.

His time in the 100m backstroke was good enough for Nicky to claim the club record and to top off a great weekend Nicky also broke the club record in the 50m backstroke due to a very determined swim in the first leg of the medley relay race.

Hopefully Nicky can continue this fine form for the rest of the season and achieve some fast times at this year’s Irish Age Group Championships at the National Aquatic Centre Dublin in July, before he heads off to Tenerife in October with the Ulster Schools for a warm weather training camp.

Nicky says he just thinks of sunny Tenerife when his Mum opens his bedroom door at 4.30am to wake him to head to Lisburn for training with older brother Lee.
