Dromore U15s ease into bowl semi-final at Barban Hill

DROMORE met Ballyclare in the bowl competition semi final on Saturday at a sunny Barban Hill which encouraged open rugby.

Dromore were put into this level under controversial circumstances by the Ulster Branch and as predicted were far too strong for their opposition.

Ballyclare had a big forward pack but struggled to contend in all aspects with a rampant Dromore team who wanted to prove their pedigree to the Ulster Branch by their efforts on the pitch.

Within minutes of the start Ryan Hughes, a strong contender for player of the year, produced a back row run through opposition tackles to score a fine try the first of two tries for him.

Patrick Wright emulated this effort in also producing a fine run resulting in a try a few minutes later, bolstered by a few early points Dromore began to move the ball effortlessly at times into the spaces created by forwards and backs.

The floodgates opened and soon Adam Reaney (2), Adam McDonald (2), Simon Henshaw, Ross Bingham and Johnnie Creighton had all crossed the line.

Dromore produced some dazzling rugby at times with intricate forward play linking into a free-flowing display of back line running and passing.

Dromore ended the first half 64-0 ahead with most of the team scoring at some point. Ballyclare did not have any answers and did not want to play the second half however by agreement the teams restarted with Dromore giving all their substitutes some game time.

From the start Dromore kept up the pressure with sub Luke Fitsimmons getting a try running a fine support line off his back row, scoring under the posts. This was added to when, from the restart, TJ Morris ran from inside his half jinking  and side stepping his way under the posts. He also kicked a number of conversions throughout the game.

Only six minutes into the second half the referee blew up the game. This was a magnificent semi final display by Dromore who now face stiffer opposition in the final on April 28 at Barban Hill against local rivals Banbridge. A derby game to relish for any rugby enthusiast.
