Drumgor close the gap

It was Joe Duff who got the winners off to a good start with a 2-1 win over Josie McCorry despite Joe just missing tops for a 160 checkout. Pearse Richardson hit 180 in his match against Martin Haddock but it wasn’t enough as Martin claimed the win 2-1 to level the match. Dessie Dunbar had a 2-1 win over Marty Craig despite unfortunately busting his 136 outshot for a 12 darter, he was still able to finish in 20 darts to put the Celtic back in front.

Celtic went further ahead when Anto Crewe won his fourth league game in a row over the previously unbeaten Clive Hanna 2-1 and things were looking good for the leaders. But it was Drumgor who showed why they are champions when they took over from there to claim the next four matches.

Stevie Duff stopped Tommy McErlene’s five match win streak with a 2-0 win and Eamon Duff levelled the match with a 2-1 win over Gerard Crewe. Paul Lennox put Drumgor in front when he beat Dee Breen 2-0 and Shane Lennon made it five wins out of five for him and claimed the two points for Drumgor when he beat Adrian Hutchinson 2-0.

Eire Og had a Comfortable 7-1 win over Clann Eireann to remain second in the table but they are now only a point behind the Celtic. Captain Noel Dunwoodie started with a 2-1 win over Mark Magee. Eire Og won the next six legs with Paul McGahan getting a 2-0 win over Chris Magee Hugh Heaney beat Cathal Hendron 2-0 and Micky Dunwoodie won 2-0 against Niall McCluskey to make it 4-0 to Eire Og. Ciaran McMahon narrowly missed the bull for a 12 darter which included a 180 but still did enough for a 2-0 win over Paul Callaghan to get Clann Eireann’s only point of the night. Chris Cinnamond hit a 20 darter on his way to a 2-1 win over Mick Hendron and Dermy McStay beat Nathan McCabe by the same 2-1 score. Niall Heaney finished off a good night for Eire Og with a 2-1 victory over Ciaran Magee. INF made it four wins out of five in the league with a hard fought 5-3 win over the Stables. It was two unbeaten players up first with Marty Crossan finally stopping Michael Lamb’s four game win streak winning the deciding leg in 19 darts for a 2-1 win.

In a high quality game Peter Morris beat Marty Murray 2-0 with both players hitting a 140 and a 125 to level the match. The INF then won the next three games with Seamy Tallon beating Dee McConville (140) 2-1 and Stevie McConnon keeping his four game winning streak going with a 2-0 win over Hugh Campbell. Terry Morrow hit five ton plus scores including a 140 in his 2-0 win over Brain Devine to make it 4-1 to the INF. Captain Shane Tallon pulled one back for the Stables beating Andy McConnon 2-0 but the match was soon over when Lee Culbert got his third win of the season beating Paul White 2-0.

In the final match Gareth Bunting had a 140 as well as a couple of 100 scores in his 2-0 win over Paul Magill.

On Thursday night (tonight) all the players who entered the qualifying round of the Northern Ireland Individuals meet at Clann Eireann to try and make it through and represent the league in the Emerald Roadhouse in Belfast. Last Saturday Drumgor held their weekly competition and again repeated the group format that proved popular the previous week ensuring everyone got plenty of chances and games. This week it was Celtic’s Mick Millar who claimed the win beating Felix Cush from Belfast in a tight final with Mick winning 4-3. Beaten semi-finalists were Marty Murray and Gareth Bunting.
