'Dudey' must face Lauri again

REPORTS have emerged that Dungiven boxer Paul McCloskey has been ordered to face his last opponent Giuseppe Lauri in a rematch.

The order has come from the European Boxing Union. McCloskey knocked Lauri out in the 11th round of his first defence of his European light-welterweight bout last month at the King's Hall and it appears that the lack of drug testing after the fight may have helped the Italian's camp in their demand for a rematch.

Lauri had also complained after the bout that he had been gesturing to touch the Dungiven mans gloves when he was caught by a right hander.

Purse bids for the return bout must be in by September 11 with Matchroom Sports again expected to win the rights to stage the fight.

John Breen, coach to the unbeaten McCloskey, said he he is not concerned about his man facing Lauri again and confidently expects him to do a much better job this time around.
