Duffin Transport Team Time Trial Team consisting of Jerome McKendry, Bryan McKinney, Devon McIlwaine and Niall O’Hagan competed in the NI Championship TTT at Woodgreen, Ballymena on Tuesday evening. The Team posted a great time of 53.24 over the 25 miles. There was disappointment for the group hearing at the finish of their 11 second margin from claiming a medal. This was Duffin Transport’s first ever attempt at the TTT and with more training at this technical discipline they will only improve.

Duffin Transport Race Team members Devon, Bryan, Jerome and Niall raced on Saturday in Richhill. Co. Armagh at the Groucho GP. Team orders were in place and Devon was protected throughout the day to be delivered to the line. Niall, Jerome and Bryan chased every break down to the frustration of all hopefuls. The racing was very intense so much so that the 55 mile hilly course was covered in under 2hrs!

In the end the main field approached the uphill finish. Devon as planned was taken to the front to contest this very difficult finale. With 200 metres to go disaster struck when the Aghadowey man was knocked off his bike by a very tired rider who had cramped. Devon took a heavy fall however after receiving help he climbed back on the bike and waas accompanied by his Team mates over the line to the approval of those gathered at the finish. They all knew Devon was going well and would have been a leading contender at the line. Duffin Transport riders were all disappointed not to get the result however pleased with the performance of each member of the Team. Its only a matter of time!

DUFFIN TRANSPORT’S DEVON CLAIMS 6TH IN THE 100KM TOUR OF MOURNES CLASSIC

Despite crashing heavily on Saturday Devon was back on the bike, supported by his Duffin Transport Team mates Bryan McKinney and Niall O’Hagan at the tough Tour of the Mournes on Sunday to claim an excellent 6th place. In what could only be described as breathtaking speeds which were in excess of 40mph Devon, Bryan and Niall battled with Irelands top cyclists at the A2/3 grade. The fast pace and hilly terrain around the Mourne penninsula covering 100km was energy sapping to say the least. Both Bryan and Niall were involved in early breaks however Devon got into the one that counted and with 60km remaining the breakaway maintained their advantage to the line in Newry. A fantastic achievement on a blustery day. This see’s Devon requiring only 1 more point to achieve A2 status. Duffin Transport riders are continuing to challenge for honours in each race they are involved in and will be hoping for further success at the blue ribbon Ras Donegal in June.
