Duffy's goal not enough

A SHANE Duffy goal was not enough to keep Everton under-18s in the FA Youth Cup.

The Toffees youngsters missed out on a semi-final spot when Osayamen Osawe scored an extra-time winner for Blackburn Rovers.

Osawe's strike sent his side into the FA Youth Cup semi-final spot, courtesy of a 2-1 home win over Everton.

Everton goalkeeper Adam Davies was beaten by a great curling strike from the edge of the area in the 102nd minute.

It had looked good for the visitors when Londonderry teenager Shane Duffy - who recently rocked Northern Ireland by declaring for the Republic - put them ahead with a first-half header from Jose Baxter's free kick, but Rovers' Grant Hanley brought the home side level with just ten minutes remaining on the clock.

After the extra time goal, Everton threw on subs and centre-back Duffy was pushed further forward in a desperate bid to save the tie, but to no avail.

Blackburn's opponents in the semi-final will be Chelsea.
