No bowler has ever lifted a British Isles title whilst playing for the successful Gilford club.

This Thursday (and all being well Friday) Michael Higgins, Andy Hughes, Tony Bell, DJ Wilson and Myles Greenfield will be out to create their history and bring the honours back to Dunbarton.

Michael and Andy even have two chances at glory while DJ and Conor McCartan will go on to represent Ireland at the weekend.

In the triples, Michael and Andy will team up with Tony Bell and they go straight in to the semi-finals where they will play the winners of M Rive (Jersey) or R Weale (Wales).

If they can play the way they did in the final of the Irish Triples when they won after just 12 of the allotted 18 ends, the talented trio know they are good enough to claim the coveted British Isles Trophy.

In the fours, Michael and Andy will comprise the front end of the rink skipped by Myles Greenfield with Irish International DJ Wilson at third.

The Gilford four have been drawn in the preliminary round where they will face the Scottish Champions skipped by M McGowan.

Should they progress, they would face the Guernsey champions skipped by M Le Ber in the semi final.

In a strange twist of fate this is the same rink that defeated Myles’ four in 2011 by a solitary shot in their only other British Isles Fours appearance.

And that was also at the semi final stage and also in Scotland. The Gilford foursome will be hoping to get their chance for revenge and then go on and lift the holy grail, namely a British Isles trophy.

On Saturday and Sunday, Dunbarton bowlers DJ Wilson and Conor McCartan will don the green jersey as they attempt to guide their fellow Ireland team-mates to glory in the team British Isles Championships at the same venue.

Both bowlers will play second, DJ on the rink skipped by Robert Hastings and Conor on the rink skipped by Andy Kyle. This will be DJ’s 12th series in succession while team-mate Conor will be representing his country for his third series.

“The Dunbarton club would like to wish their bowlers well and hope that they will continue to do their club and country proud,” said a club spokesperson.
