Dunbarton set to host an Open Pairs tournament

Dunbarton Bowling Club, Gilford, will play host to a Short mat Open Pairs Tournament starting next Monday (18th January).

Kindly sponsored by The Mill at Ballydugan, Downpatrick, the tournament will see nightly qualifying rounds played across the week, with the culmination of finals night on Saturday 23rd January.

Tournament organiser Jack Moffett is confident that the tournament will be a success and can lead to an annual event.

“This is our first year at re-introducing our tournament after a few years,” he said, “and we have had a lot of interest so far with entries coming through on a daily basis.

“A lot of the game’s top players have shown their interest in supporting the tournament, with the likes of Raymond Stubbs, Colin & Liam McHugh, Andy Leckey, Marty Trainor, DJ & Jonny Wilson having entered”

Although a high class field is expected, Jack believes there will also be a fun side to the tournament:

“A number of our outdoor members who do not normally play the short mat scene have teamed up with someone with experience of the game. It will be interesting to see how they do during the tournament,” he added.

All qualifying rounds will start at 7pm sharp and entry fees are £6. There are still spaces available. To enter, contact Jack on 07725419192 or 02838339426

The Dunbarton committee would like to thank all tournament sponsors: The Mill at Ballydugan, Downpatrick, Marie Allen Photography, Right Bowling Equipment, Myles Greenfield Upholstery and members who made donations.
