Dungannon racers hoping to celebrate on Karting’s big day

The Northern Ireland Karting Championships and the Ulster Karting Club championships have drawn to a close with the final round recently at Nutts Corner Circuit with many classes going right to the final race of the day for championship deciders.

Comer Cadets saw British Championship contenders Adrian Hegarty from Toomebridge and Jack Young from Castlereagh have to prioritise their meetings at home this year. In the end, young Hegarty competed enough to see him secure the Ulster Championships from Young.

Glenavy’s Jack McGaughey held the series lead in Honda Cadet to mid season when Dungannon’s Michael Owens really started to up the pressure. By the time of the final round that pressure was taking it’s toll and in the end Owens was able to sit out the last round to secure the Ulster championships from McGaughey.

Michael Owens by the closing race was able to try his hand at the Mini Max class after winning the Cadets series and took third on the day to show that he will be worth watching out for next season.

In the NI championships however it was Dungannon’s Gary Donnelly that faired out the best overall around the four circuits that made up the championship.

Gary also took on the British Championships this season and following a podium result at the Nutts Corner round also secured a place in the Rotax Max World Final in Portugal in December by winning the Irish Formula Mini Max championship.

Apart from the 24th November awards ceremony, the next big events as such in the sport will be the 500MRCI karting section second round to their winter series at their Kirkistown base on 8th December followed by the Ulster Karting Club promoted Winter Cup at Nutts Corner on Thursday 27th December.
