Dunloy Presbyterian defeat First Coleraine

Teams got a rest from League games this week when the first round of the Morrison Trophy took place.

Castlerock made the short trip out to Ballinrees. It was the home team who made the better start as William Calvin beat Victor Callaghan (C’rock) and brother David Calvin (B’rees) won against Ronnie Steele (C’rock). However the “Rock” hit back as Jackie Hutchinson beat Victor Millen (B’rees) andBrian Wilson won against Uel Gordon (B’rees) but it was not enough to give the visitors the overall score. St. Colman’s entertained Boveedy and the home team had a comfortable win.

In an all second Division pairing First Coleraine lost out to Dunloy Presbyterian. There were wins for Stephen Dunlop and William McCaughern). Both John Camac and Jim Campbell (1st. Coleraine) won their games against Thomas Paul and Mark Shaw (D’loy) but the home team still went down by six shots.

League leaders Loughanreagh took on lowly Finvoy Presbyterian and it was the home team who went through easily. New Row were at home to Dunluce but again it was the Division 1 team who were victorious.

Second Kilrea edged out Moneydig in a local derby. Garvagh and District were up against St. Mary’s and found it tough all night as they crashed out. The Marian entertained Drumreagh but the home team went through comfortably winning all four games.

The draw for the second round is: Second Kilrea v St. Mary’s; Dunloy Pres. v Dunluce; St. Colman’s v Loughanreagh; Marian v Ballinrees. These games to be played on/before 17th January 2015.

Two postponed league games were also played. Loughanreagh beat Finvoy Pres. 7-0 and St. Colman’s beat Boveedy 7-0.

This leaves Loughanreagh on top with 48.5 points and second placed Marian are nine points further back.
