O’Groman Cup Final

BRANTWOOD 1 V 4 DUNLOY After extra time

This was a cracking and final with both teams going for the win from the start it was a good advertisement for the league.

Both teams created chances before John John McFerran saw Keeper Dempster tip his shot over the bar on the 21st minute then on the 23rd minute Martin McAvoy saw his shot hit the Dunloy crossbar. Brantwood then had another good chance on the 28th minute but Patrick Kelly saw Keeper Doherty make and excellent save tipping the ball over the bar.

The first goal in the game came on the 41st minute after Fintan McCartney crossed the ball for William Stewart to score putting Brantwood in front. Dunloy hit back on the 43rd minute after a Brantwood defender was penalised in the penalty box resulting in John John McFerran scoring from the spot. The second half saw plenty of chances with the crossbars at both end being hit several times and excellent save from Keepers Dempster and Doherty saw the scoreline level at the end of ninety minutes.

Dunloy then went in front on the 92nd minute after Chrissy brogan hit a low left foot shot into the bottom corner of the Brantwood net and this was followed by goal number three for Dunloy on the 95th minute with John John McFerran running through from the half-way line before scoring. Brantwood never gave up the chase but with the two goal cushion Dunloy were able to sit and hit on the break which was seen to good effect when Benny McGarry made a good run on the right before putting Anthony McQuillan in to score the final goal in the game on the 106th minute.

After the final whistle the League Chairman Mr. Ian Shiels presented the Dunloy Captain Brendan Marron with the Cup. Referee Mr. Mervyn McAleese

GLEBE RANGERS RES 0 V 3 NEWTOWNABBEY FC

Glebe in their last league game had to win if they were going to have any chance of overtaking Newtownabbey at the top of the table but with games in hand the visitors were able to keep it tight at the back and hit on the break.

This they did to good effect on the 24th minute which saw Jackie Moore beat the Glebe defence running in to score the opening goal. The second half saw Newtownabbey the more dominant team and a brace of goals scored by Paul Harper on the 62nd and 81st minute saw them take all three points to win and claim the league title.
