DUNLUCE ARE CROWNED LEAGUE CHAMPIONS

The North West Indoor Bowling League went down to the wire with first placed, Dunluce playing second placed, Loughanreagh in what was virtually a shoot-out game to see where the title was going.

However it was the Dunluce outfit that produced the goods on the night. In the first game Barry Kane (Dunluce) took on Edwin Irwin (Loughanragh) with the home skip running out a 14 shots to four winner. Ian Ross (Loughanreagh) closed the gap with a 13 shots to 10 win against Rodney Kane (Dunluce). In the second half Alan Irwin eased Loughanreagh ahead when he beat Alastair Kilpatrick (Dunluce) 13 shots to four.

It was down to Uel McKeeman to lay the game to rest for Dunluce and this he did with an emphatic win over Alastair Steele (Loughanreagh) to ensure the silver ware was once again returning to Bushmills. Congrtaulations to Dunluce for winning the Division1 League.

There was also a deciding game at the bottom end of the League, with Moneydig battling it out with near neighbours Second Kilrea, to determine who was going down. It was Second Kilrea who played the better bowls and Moneydig will be playing their bowls in Division 2 next season. Margaret Johnston (2nd. Kilrea) played David Wright (Moneydig) and Margaret won by six shots. Brian McFetridge (Moneydig) earned a draw, eight shots apiece, with Nicky McCaw (2nd. Kilrea).

In the second half in a game that could have gone either way, Brian McGrath (2nd. Kilrea) got the edge on Trevor Workman (Moneydig) winning by just one shot. Ivan Smyth (2nd. Kilrea) put the match beyond any doubt with a nine shots to five win against with Willie Knight (Moneydig).

In the remaining two games, St. Mary’s played out a draw with the Marian and St. Colman’s had a 6.5 points to 0.5 point victory over Boveedy.

PORTGLENONE Bowling Club are holding a Quiz Night in Coleraine Bowling Club on Saturday 16 March at 8pm.

It is £4 per person and a maximum of six people per team.
