Dunluce extend their advantage

Dunluce entertained their nearest contenders the Marian this week and are now six points clear of both them and Loughanreagh following their five points to two win over them.

The Marian got off to a good start when Joe Martin (Marian) narrowly defeated Uel McKeeman (Dunluce) by just one shot. Barry Kane levelled the scores for Dunluce with a 13 shots to five win against James Martin. Alastair Kilpatrick (Dunluce) eased his team in front with an emphatic 15 shots to four win over Brian McAlary (Marian). William McCaw (Marian) gained his team an extra point when he beat Ian Kerr (Dunluce) by four shots.

Loughanreagh are still very much in the picture after a convincing win against Moneydig. Trevor Workman put the home team in front with a 10 shots to seven win over Alastair Steele (L’reagh). Ian Ross (L’reagh) squared the match when he beat John Wallace (Moneydig) by three shots. With two wins in the second half from Alan and Edwin Irwin (both L’reagh) who beat Willie Knight and Alan McAleese respectively, Loughanreagh went home with six very valuable points.

Boveedy played Ballinrees this week and in a very tight encounter they overcame their rivals by one shot. Alan Catherwood (Boveedy) beat Victor Millen (B’rees) 12 shots to six. Uel Gordon (B’rees) then got the better of Aaran Tennant (Boveedy) winning by five shots. Doughie Morrow put the home team in front with a 14 shots to six victory against William Calvin (B’rees). Jonathan Calvin salvaged a second point for Ballinrees by beating Ashley McCahon (Boveedy) 13 shots to five.

What a close game was played out at Aghadowey between St. Mary’s and St. Colman’s. There was only shot difference in each of the four rinks but it was St. Colman’s who went home with the six points. Harold Kelly (St. Mary’s) pushed Paul McCook (St. Colman’s) all the way but lost 10 shots to eleven. Jordan Mullan (St. Mary’s) then went down 11 shots to 12 against David Walker (St. Colman’s). In the second half Aidan Cassley (St. Mary’s) beat Kenny Carson (St. Colman’s) six shots to five, but in the final game Martin McAleese (St. Colman’s) held on to beat Declan McCann (St. Mary’s) 10 shots to nine.

At the half way stage of the League programme, New Row still sits proudly at the top of Division 2. Jonathan Elder got the home team off to a good start with a 17 shots to four win over David Workman (Garvagh/Dist.). Mark Callaghan (New Row) kept the momentum going when he got the better of Elizabeth McCafferty (G’vagh) when he won by six shots. Sammy McArthur (New Row) then beat Geoffrey Boyce (G’vagh) by two shots. Ken McLenaghan salvaged a point for the visitors by beating Joe Elkin (New Row) 10 shots to seven.

Dunloy Presbyterian beat Finvoy Presbyterian this week and is now only two points behind leaders, New Row. Joe Moore got the visitors off to a cracking start when he beat Thomas Paul (D’loy) by eight shots. Mark Shaw (D’loy) brought the match back level with a 14 shots to five victory against Robert McShane (F’voy). In the second half Stephen Dunlop and Joe Campbell (both D’Loy) had very narrow wins against Gary McCloy and Chris Jones (F’voy) respectively to gain the bonus points.

Castlerock jump up the League table a couple of places this week after a good win against Drumreagh. Ronnie Steele (C’rock) beat Raymond Clyde (D’reagh) by six shots whilst Brian Wilson (C’rock) had the same margin in his game with Carson Boyd (D’reagh). Jackie Hutchinson (C’rock) narrowly overcame Edwin Jackson (D’reagh), winning by two shots. Victor Callaghan made sure of the home win by convincingly beating Martin Marks (D’reagh).

First Coleraine returned to winning ways with this win over neighbours Killowen. Robert Campbell (1st. C’raine) beat David Morrison 10 shots to six. Bryan Shaw increased the home teams’ lead with a nine shot win against Billy Laverty (Killowen). Colin Hutchinson (1st. C’raine) was too strong for Sadie Davis (Killowen) winning 14 shots to five and Jim Campbell (1st. C’raine) put the icing on the cake with a hard fought win over Robert McClements (Killowen).

Second Kilrea Pairs

Tournament

Second Kilrea Bowling Club are holding their annual Pairs Tournament at the start of December.

The competition will be held on Monday 3rd, Wednesday 5th, Friday 7th, Saturday 8th, Monday 10th and Wednesday 12th. The finals night is Friday 14th.
