DUNLUCE HIT THE FRONT

Dunluce made the long journey out to Boveedy this week but their trip was worthwhile for they came away with six points which puts them at the top of the NW Division One League table.

In the first half Rodney Kane and Uel McKeeman, both Dunluce were to too good for Alan Calderwood and Ashley McCahon respectively. Doughie Morrow (Boveedy) won his team’s only point when he defeated Alastair McIntyre (Dunluce) 12 shots to five shots. Alastair Kilpatrick made sure of the overall score for Dunluce with a fine win against Aaran Tennant.

St. Colman’s were at home to 2nd Kilrea and both teams could not be separated ending up with 37 shots each. David Walker (St. Colman’s) had a tough match with Brian McGrath (2nd. Kilrea) just losing out by six shots to eight shots. Paul McCook however levelled the game for St. Colman’s when he got the better of Ivan Smith winning 13 shots to 10 shots. Martin McAleese then eased the home team in front with a six shot victory against Margaret Johnston. In the final game Nicky McCaw (2nd. Kilrea) beat Kenny Carson by seven shots to square the game and share the points.

The Marian and Loughanreagh contested a very tight game which could have gone either way. Edwin Irwin put the visitors in front with a 10 shots to four shots win against Joe Martin (Marian). James Martin (Marian) then beat Alan Irwin (Loughanreagh) to leave the match all square at the break but with Loughanreagh having an advantage of two shots. In the second half William McCaw won his game with Ian Ross (Loughanreagh) to nose the Marian in front. The match was decided in the final end of the game between Brian McAlary (Marian) and Owen Steele (Loughanreagh) but McAlary picked up two shots to win and give his team six valuable points.

Ballinrees entertained Moneydig this week. In the first game Victor Millen (Ballinrees) beat Willie Knight by one shot. Uel Gordon (Ballinrees) drew with Trevor Workman, eight shots each. Jonathan Calvin (Ballinrees) was too strong for Terrence McFetridge (Moneydig) winning 15 shots to eight shots. Brian McFetridge salvaged a point for the visitors when he won nine shots to five shots in his game with William Calvin.

DUNLOY COME TO THE FORE

Dunloy Presbyterian continued their fine run of form with a convincing win against 1st. Coleraine. Stephen Dunlop (Dunloy) won his game with Robert Campbell (1st. Coleraine), 13 shots to seven shots. Joe Campbell (Dunloy) made it 2-0 when he beat Bryan Shaw (1st. Coleraine) by 13 shots. The second half games were much closer. Colin Hutchinson (1st. Coleraine) went down eight shots to six shots against Andrew Sayers (Dunloy). Jim Campbell (1st. Coleraine) had a great tussle with Mark Shaw (Dunloy) the game ending seven shots apiece.

New Row is also showing some form, as proved in their win against Castlerock. Jonathan Elder put the home team on the road to victory with a nine shots win against Ronnie Steele (Castlerock).Victor Callaghan (Castlerock) stopped the rot temporarily when he beat Sammy McArthur 12 shots to 11 shots. Joe Elkin restored New Rows’ dominance with an 11 shots to six shots victory against Brian Wilson (Castlerock). Mark Callaghan put the icing on the cake in his game with Terry Campbell, winning by seven shots.

Drumreagh had a set- back this week when they fell to Finvoy Presbyterian at home. Sammy Martin (Drumreagh) took on and beat Joe Moore (Finvoy) 10 shots to six shots. Chris Jones (Finvoy) levelled the match when he beat Raymond Clyde (Drumreagh) by seven shots. Garry McCloy extended the visitors’ lead with a two shot win against Carson Boyd (Drumreagh). Robert McShane (Finvoy) made it six points for his team by beating Edwin Jackson eight shots to five.

Killown are finding live difficult at the moment. They got off to a great start in their game with Garvagh & District winning both matches in the first half. Robert McClements (Killowen) beat Elizabeth McCafferty (Garvagh) 13 shots to six shots, whilst Billy Laverty (Killowen) got the better of David Workman (Garvagh). However in the second half with wins from Ken McLenaghan and Geoffrey Boyce, both Garvagh in their games with David Morrison and Sadie Davis respectively it was the visitors who went home with the overall win.
