Duo still not cleared

INSTITUTE manager John Gregg is frustrated that recent signings Vinny Sweeney and Eddie McIntyre will have to wait for their debuts as their international clearance has still not gone through.

The Waterside men travel to Dundela, on Saturday, for their first round tie in the Co-operative Insurance Cup (KO 3pm) and Gregg has also admitted that he will be continuing to field a host of young players, as the Ladbrokes.com Championship is his main priority; nevertheless he is expecting a big performance.

"I'm annoyed that both Vinny and Eddie's international clearance isn't sorted out yet, but it's just one of those things and we have to get on with it," he said.

"We are still missing Ruairi McClean and Graham Taylor and because of that I'll be using very much the same squad that did well at Bangor.

"Although we lost that game, as I have said before I was pleased with a lot of things that day."

The Coleraine man knows his young side are not going to get everything their own way at Wilgar Park, this weekend.

"Although Dundela are in a league below us I know we are going to have a tough game, because they beat Armagh City 4-1 in their opening league game.

"However because I'm giving the young players another game, I'm hoping they have learned from the Bangor match and at the end of the day it's up to them to do enough to keep the shirt.

"I know that both Vinny and Eddie are quality players and whenever they are available I'm hoping to have a selection headache, but that can only happen if the young players do well.

"Managers pick teams, but players have to make that easy by producing good performances on a consistent basis."

Meanwhile 'Stute will host Portstewart in the first round of the Craig Memorial Cup, next Saturday, August 28 (KO 3pm).
