Setting off pitch side at the Ballymena Showgrounds, the Ballymena Mile will pass through/ take in the Showgrounds arena, and the sights of the ECOS Centre and is set to be an incredible event.

Entrants don’t have to be sporty to take part, but can choose to complete 1, 3 or 6 miles knowing that all the money raised will help to change the lives of people living unimaginably tough lives right here on our doorstep, across the rest of the UK and in some the world’s poorest countries.

Iain Black, Ballymena United Community Relations Officer, said: “The Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile in Ballymena is here and it’s your time to shine. From teeny-tots with their mums and dads, to super sprinters up against the clock there’s something for everyone on the big day.

“This is the first Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile in Ballymena so we are setting our sights on a realistic target of 200 people. So come on, pull your Sport Relief socks up, enter the Mile and do something amazing!”

The event is being organised by Ballymena United Football Club in association with Ballymena Runners Athletic Club, and coincides perfectly with the Ballymena based running club’s Monday evening training sessions.

Stephen Brown, Ballymena Runners Secretary, said: “The Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile could not have come at a more opportune time for Ballymena Runners.

“We are in the middle of a Beginners programme which is all about encouraging people to take up running, enjoy the training, camaraderie and benefits of running in a group.

“Sport Relief is a charity, which as a running club, we have a natural empathy with and I would hope to get a great response from the Ballymena area. The course itself is flat and scenic; hopefully the stage is set for a very successful day.”
