Club officials will be on hand to answer any questions regarding the junior section, which will be the only junior athletics club in the borough.

As part of the event, there will be a variety of activities for children (and adults) including a bouncy castle, face painting, children’s duathlon and running races.

There will also be a number of invitational adult races.

In addition to this, there will be refreshments on offer by way of ice cream and popcorn stands, and a barbecue. And the day will be topped off by the appearance of a very special guest!

Meanwhile, on Sunday Dan Spencer took on the Wasdale Half Ironman in the Lake District. The event, dubbed ‘the world’s toughest Half Ironman’ is a 1.9k swim, a 90k cycle (with 7,217ft of ascending) and a 13.1-mile run (which includes 4,583ft of ascending). Despite a navigational error during his run, Dan completed the gruelling race in an outstanding 8:25:00, securing 12th place in what was a top-quality field.
