East Coast AC members in action across province

East Coast AC athletes have this week been taking part in events in Armagh, Newtownabbey Lisburn and Larne.

Justin Maxwell (pictured) had a personal best at the Armagh International 5k road races last Thursday night.

Up against world class opposition, Justin clocked a speedy 15:54 for the distance, securing 95th place in the race.

On Sunday, club members Danny Hylands and Callum Sittlington impressed at the Lisburn Duathlon.

The talented duo faced a two-mile run, 10-mile cycle and a final two-mile run in wet and windy conditions; both performed to their usually high standards, with Danny crossing the line in 1:03:15 (25th) and Callum 1:03:56 (27th).

As always, there was a large East Coast AC representation at the Larne parkrun.

Despite the cool conditions and eventual snow, the local runners produced excellent performances.

Young Matthew McIlroy was the first black and yellow vest to complete the 5k course, recording 21:44 (4th).

Chris Davis followed six seconds later in 21:50 (6th), before Conor Sheridan achieved a new personal best of 22:36 (11th).

Brian Maltman continued his training towards the upcoming Larne Half Marathon with a solid outing, taking 13th place in 22:50.

Rhys McManus pipped father Mark to the Drains Bay finish line, clocking a new personal best of 23:13 (16th). Mark was the next athlete across the line in 23:15 (17th).

Another father-and-son duo, Sandy and Harry Plumb, also took to the start line, with Harry crossing the line in 24:00 (22nd). Sandy followed just over a minute later in 25:19 (24th).

Tracey Parke (7th place lady – 27:58), Martin Taylor (39th – 27:59) and Charlotte Dean (8th place lady – 28:18) all recorded new personal bests.

James Robinson, who continues his return from serious injury, encouraged young Charlotte Dean and finished in 28:24 (41st).

The ever-consistent Joanna McIlroy and new club member Glenda Stewart crossed the line in 28:31 (10th place lady) and 29:05 (11th place lady) respectively, before Cyndy Hay enjoyed another successful parkrun outing, returning to Drains Bay in 30:21 (13th place lady).
