While the First XV were unsuccessful in their attempt for silverware on the pitch on Thursday night, the club has also been also looking forward to an important date off the field this Saturday.

Eaton Park will play host to Ulster ‘A’s British and Irish Cup clash with Scarlets Premiership Select (2.30pm) - a week after the sides met in Wales.

“Historically, Ulster ‘A’ have played home games in Belfast but earlier this season we approached Ulster Rugby with a view to hosting one of those fixtures in Ballymena,” club chairman Derek Montgomery told Times Sport.

“We’re delighted that it has come to pass and it’s a golden opportunity to showcase Ballymena Rugby Club and its facilities, not only to rugby fans but also to the wider borough of Ballymena.

“In one of Ulster ‘A’s recent games there were seven Ballymena players in the panel so there will be a strong local interest in the match.

“As well as the match itself there is a load of different activities like a children’s fun park and a bucking bronco reindeer.

Weather permitting, we’ll also have Santa arriving by helicopter so it will be great day out for the family and a big day for the club,” added Derek.
