Eaton Park rugby match will aid cancer charity

The game has been organised to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support in recognition of Kieran Bowes, who has received treatment for cancer.

Kieran (20) was a member of the Cambridge House Grammar School Medallion XV in 2010 and that team will be reformed to play in the charity fixture.

Their opponents will be Ballymena Rugby Club Fourth XV with the game taking place at Eaton Park this Friday night, April 10, with a 7pm kick-off.

“A number of the guys who played in that team got back in touch via Facebook and we decided we would do something to try to raise money for charity,” said Thomas McIlroy, one of the organising committee.

“We eventually came up with the idea of a rugby match and of putting our old team back together.

“Kieran will be there on the night and his twin brother Curtis will be playing and we hope that we can have a great night and give Kieran a bit of a boost through this difficult time.

“We plan to have donation buckets floating about on the night for all to donate to as the event is free of charge and we would love to see as big a turnout as possible,” added Thomas. Food will also be provided in the Eaton Park clubrooms after the match.
