Edgar has lined out for his hometown club at Chambers Park and Edenvilla across more than 25 years - as well as representing Portadown in various off-field roles.

He marked his final appearance on home soil with a rare but memorable appearance on target in Portadown’s 4-1 defeat of Mossley.

Edgar launched a move from the halfway line then linked up with Stewart Kirkland and Stephen Johnston before connecting at a stretch to finish the flowing attack around the back post.

The goal - the game’s final finish - sparked mass celebrations as Edgar’s team-mates raced over to offer congratulations.

Mossley broke the deadlock despite sharp attacking play early one from Portadown’s Johnston, Gregory Croft and Matthew Winter.

The hosts regrouped as Robert Scott and Kirkland combined before Adam Stevenson converted a short corner.

A clearance led to Portadown sparking a break which Scott converted.

Jamie Knipe produced a fine save in the second half and Portadown worked hard to restrict the Mossley attacking threat, under the leadership of Johnny Brown.

Stevenson capped a fine individual performance by steering in another drag flick off a short corner for 3-1.

However, the main talking point arrived late on as Edgar signed off in style.
