Emma does a Kelly on her way to double gold

EMMA Mitchell did a Kelly Holmes and took gold in both the 800m and 1500m inter girls at the Ulster Schools Track and Field Championships.

Emma had over an 80m lead in the 800m, running on her own from the gun on the hottest day of the year so far, managing a new PB with a time 2.14.08.

Then an hour anda half later she gave another great performance running on her own again in the 1500m to win in 4.45.7.

She will now be preparing for the All Ireland Schools Championships on June as well as studying hard for her GCSE exams.

Other performances from Banbridge athletes include Shannon Brush from New Bridge Integrated who finished second in the senior girls long jump with a distance of 5m19. She will also be going to the All Ireland Championships on June 5.

Kirsty Moffett from Banbridge Academy was fourth in the senior girls 200m with a time 28.02. Jemma Jackson, Banbridge Academy, took fifth in the inter girls javelin with a new PB of 27m35. Ciara Grimley, Our Lady’s Newry, was eigth in the junior girls 1500m, finishing in 5.22.4 while Megan McKenna from Banbridge Academy was eighth in the long jump 4m38.

Ben Daly from Banbridge Academy ran in the junior boys 800m and Heather Wilson, Banbridge High School, threw in the inter girls discus.
