Emma scores the only goal of game

ON Saturday November 11 Dromore Fourths played Carrick Thirds at Ferris Park.

After watching Dromore Thirds play Carrick Dromore were determined to play their best game as it was also the last game of the day!

From the whistle Dromore dominated the game with the midfield; Jordan Smyth, Emma Johnston, Victoria Robinette, Amber Muholland and Sophie McCutcheon feeding the balls through to the forwards: Gemma Crawford, Anna Hughes and Nicola Clements.

Both Nicola Clements and Anna Hughes had some great runs and shots but unfortunately they were saved.

But their efforts were soon rewarded with a penalty corner. Emma slapped the ball to Nicola at the top of the D who stopped the ball and dodged the Carrick player and took her shot, but it was just wide of the left post. Carrick up their game.

But with Dromore’s defence stopping any attacks on our goals the ball didn’t enter their defensive circle.

Dromore’s defence; Andrea Wilson, Hayley McQuiod, Lucy Woods, Erin Leeper and Lynette Coggan kept Carrick out and pushed the play into the other half.

The first half ended in 0-0.

After a half time talk from Cathy Sturgeon and a few changes in positions, Dromore were confident.

Again they started attacking Carrick’s defence. The midfield worked tirelessly winning tackles and pushing the ball into the circle.

Emma won a tackle at the half way line, dribbled the ball passed two Carrick players then passed the ball left to Nicola Clements who drew out Carrick’s defence and the goal keeper and then she pushed the ball across the goals to Emma who slotted the ball into the net.

At last Dromore were one up. Dromore continued to dominate the game but were unsuccessful in gaining another goal.

The palyer of the match goes to Emma Johnston for her tirelessly energy and determination in centre midfield.

Many thanks to our young umpire Sarah Wilson who umpired expertly in a very physical match-well done, as Dromore has worked tirelessly not only to develop players but works to develop young umpires and coaches. Sarah plays, coaches and umpires for the club.
