Emphatic victory

SATURDAY saw the return of the Games Development Centre at the Abbey Grammar School in Newry.

Rathfriland had a tough fixture against a very talented Windmill team who took an early two goal lead, but Rathfriland soon settled down and pulled a goal back through a great long range effort from Christopher McConville.

Rathfriland started to take control of the game and Alex McKee showed his skill as he scored Rathfriland’s second goal.

Johnny McGivern, who made his debut for the U9s and was captain for the day, was like a rock in the Rathfriland’s defence as he and Christopher McConville started to develop a great partnership at the back.

Rathfriland soon added to their goal tally with Aaron Baxter and Adam Trimble scoring two great individual goals to allow Rathfriland to take the lead for the first time in the match.

The locals started to put the Windmill defence under a lot of pressure and eventually they added to the score line with Shane Haughey grabbing two goals.

In the third period Rathfriland continued to dominate the play. Alex McKee had a fantastic game in the Rathfriland midfield as he covered every inch of the pitch and went on to score a superb four goals.
