Entry the Waterside HalfMarathon

Online entry has just opened for the 33rd running of the top local classic the Waterside Half Marathon, which is set for Sunday, September 14th.

With an entry limit set at 1,600 runners the popular Waterside opened its online entry system on Monday and all the entry information can be accessed on www.derrycity.gov.uk/halfmarathon.

Just log on there and follow the link to the online entry system.

Incidentally entry for the SSE Airtricity Walled City Marathon on Sunday, June 1st, has now closed with the organisers reporting another full house and expect to have 1,500 runners on the streets for the second version of last year’s fantastic event.

While, City of Derry Spartans AC, Bay Road 5K will take place next Wednesday, at 7.30pm on the traditional Foyle Riverbank/Bay Road circuit.

Sponsored by Atlanfish, the race hosts the NI 5K Road Championships and also is the final scoring event in the NI Masters 2013/14.

A big entry from club runners, plus recreational runners and joggers is expected to show their paces on the Bay Road lap course.

Entries will be taken on the night from 6pm at the University of Ulster Magee Sports Centre on Rock Road and pre-entry can be made by emailing the basic details - name, gender, D.O.B., age on race day and club, if any, to [email protected]

Meanwhile Derry City Track Club athlete, Cathal McLaughlin claimed an outstanding third place and the associated bronze medal in the M45 1,500m event at the World Masters Indoors in Budapest over the weekend.

McLaughlin finished in 4 mintues and 10.80 seconds, an incredible improvement on his 4 mins and 19.76 secs qualifying time in the heats.
