Tohill is International Rules Manager

Former Derry and Ireland captain, All-Star, Minor and Senior All-Ireland winner Anthony Tohill has been appointed as Ireland's International Rules Manager for the next two years.

The big Swatragh man was installed as the favourite for the job of taking on the Aussie Rules stars for the next two years and he was duly installed last week.

A signal honour for his club and county, Tohill has been a firm advocate of the hybrid game between the gaelic footballers of Ireland and the Aussie Rules stars.

Tohill has been described as “the most complete footballer” and the “best athlete in Ireland” and when the International Rules series was revived in 1998, he as perfectly suited to the game. He played on four International Rules tours up until 2001 when the small rural village of Swatragh was able to boast that one of its son’s was captain of the victorious Ireland side.

His leadership qualities and knowledge of the game made him an obvious choice for manager Sean Boylan to include him in his backroom team in 2006, since complemented by another Derry star Sean Marty Lockhart in 2008.

One of Derry’s best servants, he will bring all the attributes he showed as a player, commitment, style, organization and a winning mentality, to his role as manager of his country and will no doubt be a huge success.
