Eoghan Rua under 11's are crowned champions

THREE teams from Eoghan Rua descended on the Meadowbank Arena in Magherafelt on Sunday.

Their mission, to win one of two tournaments on offer.

The Under 12’s (A Team) were very unlucky not to progress in the group stages, a narrow defeat at the hands of Newbridge dented their hopes.

The Under 10’s (C Team) were also unlucky. The performances of this team was outstanding, however they bowed to the greater age and maturity of Magherafelt and Newbridge.

The Under 11’s however emerged from their group with two facile wins over Greenlough and Glen. In the top of the table clash with Craigbane they suffered an agonizing one point defeat.

Next up was Magherafelt B. This game opened up with a fine score from Callum Biggart. This was soon cancelled out by Magherafelt, who capitalized on a defensive mix up to squeeze the ball home. The resulting kick-out was won by Magherafelt and a point was blasted over.

This was the last score for Magherafelt as Coleraine’s back three of Noah Lundy, Oscar Gruszewski and Eoin Canning quickly broke up Magherafelt forays and rapidly turned them into Coleraine attacks where Lukas Condren and Ewan Rodgers were clinical in front of goal.

Result: Eoghan Rua 2:11, Magherafelt 1:1

Next up was the final and a chance for revenge.

Their opponents were Craigbane. Eoghan Rua were mindful that their opponents had defeated them in the group stages. But the Coleraine side set about their work with steely determination and great industry. A brace of goals from Callum Biggart helped settle the men from Coleraine.

The second half was again keenly contested, and the midfield duo of Aiden McGonigle and Kevin Toman ably supported by Conal Colgan put a stranglehold on the game. On the rare occasion that Craigbane broke through, they found Adam Kerr in defiant form.

Result: Eoghan Rua 3:9, Craigbane 2:2

Throughout the tournament there were some fine performances across the three teams.

Aiden McGonigle notched up a personal tally of 1:10 against Glen, Ewan Rodgers bagged a first half hat trick in the same game. Callum Biggart was also prolific in front of goal, whilst Kevin Toman scored 0:8 in the final. The defensive work of Eoin Canning, Oscar Gruszewski, Conal Colgan, Adam Kerr and Noah Lundy were superb throughout.

The teams will be competing in the Lynco Go games at the end of the month.
