Erin is queen of the green!

ERIN Smith is the undisputed queen of Irish bowls at Irish under-25 level.

The Grangegorm Drive woman last week won the Irish under-25 outdoor title, to add to her indoor success at the same level earlier this year.

Erin, who works in the Human Resources department at the local Sainsbury’s store, firstly teamed up with Belfast’s Cliodhna Eadie to win the pairs title in the finals at Donaghadee.

Then the two team-mates became rivals for the singles final, which Erin won 15-12.

She has now been selected for the full Irish Elite squad for the prestigious Atlantic Rim competition in Cyprus in October, while unfortunately she will have to forego the World under-25 championships, which take place in Wales at the same time.

Erin’s achievement capped a marvellous week for Ballymena Bowling Club, whose senior and junior teams both clinched their respective league titles – the first time the club has achieved those feats in the same season.

See pages 48-49 for full bowls round-up.
