Errors cost Wallace dear in Schools’ Cup semi

Wallace High School 1st XV lost by 26-12 to Ballyclare High School in the Schools’ Cup Semi Final on Monday at Ravenhill.

This was a disappointing performance from the Wallace boys as their game was littered with poor handling, missed tackles and poor decisions.

Wallace started brightly and enjoyed much territory and possession but gave away a soft score following an intercept in the Ballyclare 22. A further error compounded problems for Wallace shortly after half time as Ballyclare went into a 12-0 lead.

Wallace responded and came back into the game through an excellent piece of work from Jordan Heatley and Jordan Grattan got the touchdown. Although the conversion clipped the upright Wallace were back in the game however a poor kick and chase allowed Ballyclare to get in for another score and severely dented Wallace hopes. As the game progressed another error, this time in the midfield, allowed Ballyclare their final converted score.

Wallace finished the game strongly and following good work from Zack McCall, Jordan Grattan got in for his second try which was converted by James McCallan.

On the day, Ballyclare HS fully deserved their victory and all at Wallace wish them the very best for the final.

The Firsts have worked hard and enjoyed a very good year. Although disappointed by the result they deserve credit for getting to the last four. The travelling support for Wallace on the day was superb and the team thank all those who created such a great atmosphere.
