Eugene takes honours in sweep

Eugene Maguire has been out of the limelight for some time but he took the honours last week with a competent 43 points. This eleven handicapper put himself in the running with 21 points after nine holes. A birdie at the first was followed by pars on holes two, three, four, six and eight. Further tidy golf was in evidence on the back nine as well. It comprised seven pars to accompany bogeys on holes ten and seventeen. This strong back nine tally of 22 points helped him to top the leaderboard.

John Healey had a spirited tally of 42 points to secure second place. This fifteen handicapper was 20 points to the good heading to the tenth tee. A birdie at the third and pars at holes four, five and seven were his prominent returns. He kept plugging away on the back nine thanks to pars at holes ten, thirteen and fifteen. A birdie, par finish gave him a quality 22 points for the nine.

Third net went to Timmy Jenks with an equally pleasing effort of 42 points. Ten handicapper Timmy had a robust 23 points on the front side. He took a four at the second but squared matters with a birdie on the next hole. Pars were his lot of the other seven holes. He found the going tougher on the homeward nine. However a birdie at the seventeenth and pars at holes ten, eleven and twelve kept his aspirations alive.

Fourth net in the competition went to Stephen Allen. This fourteen handicapper required a tally of 40 points to get the nod. Stephen had a mediocre front nine where he just accumulated 15 points. Pars at holes one and three kept him in touch. He took only 35 shots for the back nine. He birdied the fourteenth but ran up a bogey on the last. Pars on the rest of the holes allowed him to gather 25 points on this nine.

The fifth and last net prize went to young Adam Parkinson with a similar haul of 40 points. This twenty-one handicapper managed a spirited 20 points on the alternate nines. On the day a birdie at the third and pars at holes one, six, nine and eleven paved the way for this tidy play.

The weekly gross award was captured by two handicapper James Horan. His total of 36 gross points won him the prize. James managed 17 and 19 gross points for the nines. In his level par 70 he registered birdies on holes one, six, nine, ten and fourteen. On the other hand he carded bogeys at holes two, four, seven, eight and seventeen. Needless to say he made pars everywhere else to achieve this category success.
