Eugene takes the win at Ballycastle

THE Shuttlecock Golf Society enjoyed fine weather, good scoring and an excellent meal at their outing to Ballycastle Golf Club recently.

In the Low Section Eugene Laverty finished well clear of the rest of the field with an excellent score of 43 points. A lengthy putt at the first hole for a birdie four set the trend for the front nine.

With the putter hot and four pars plus another birdie at the eighth hole Eugene amassed 24 points on the front nine. Steady play on the back nine produced 19 points to secure his second win of the season.

Andrew Stanton was runner-up on 36 points. A case of what might have been as Andrew fell victim to three ‘dings’ at the second, ninth, and eighthteenth holes.

In the High Section Sam Hemphill recorded his first win of the season with a total of 39 points made up of 21 points on the front nine followed by 18 points on the back. Sam bagged four pars and responded well with a regulation three at the 17th hole after failing to score at the 16th.

David Hynds followed close behind on 37 points. Pars at the two most difficult holes on the course, the ninth and index two fourteenth made up for four single pointers and a ‘ding’ at the seventh.

For the second time this season no ‘twos’ were recorded so the kitty will now be doubled up for the next outing at Kilrea GC on August 12 cue Jimmy Duffin, the master opportunist.
