Evan finds form on the back nine

THE Saturday Stableford competition at Edenmore Golf Golf attracted a large number of entrants despite the summer break.

Evan Evans was the winner with 44 points, playing off a handicap of 25. He got off to a par, bogey, ding start but steadied the ship to record 19 points on the first nine.

An eagle on the 12th kick-started his round and two more pars on 16 and 17 helped him to 25 points on the back nine and a win by one point.

The gross prize went to Josh Logan, playing off six, who had a one under par gross 70. His first nine had a double bogey at the third along with a birdie at the eight and the rest all pars.

On the back nine he made birdies at the three par fives and his only dropped shot came at the difficult 17th.

Section one (0-13 handicap) was won by Adam Beattie with 43 points off his 11 handicap while second was James Curran, 42 off six, and third Brian Weir, 42 off 10.

In section two (14-18) Linton Kennedy once again kept up his fantastic run of form scoring 41 points, playing off 15, to take first place while second place went to 18 handicapper Francis Frazer who also scored 41 points. David Belshaw took third place with 40 points off a handicap of 16.

Section three (19-22) was won by Mark Reilly, also scoring 41 points. Mark plays off a handicap of 19. Lawrence Lorimer, also playing off 19, took second place and was another one of the six players who scored 41 points on the day. Third in section three went to Gary Brown with 39 points playing off 19.

Section four (23-28 handicap) was won by Gerard Delargy, playing off 26, scoring 42 points in a very orderly fashion with 21 on each nine. David Butterfield was just one point adrift on 41 points playing off 27. Peter Nelson took third spot also on 41 points. Peter plays off 24.

The Wednesday stableford competition was won by Martin Delport with 43 points, Walter Ferris took second place with 41 and Graham McElroy came third with 4. The gross prize was won by James Curran shooting a 77 playing off his six handicap

The Monday seniors’ competition was won by Ronnie Girvan, playing off 12 and shooting a fabulous 46 points. In second place Jackie Gilliland came home with 39 points, also playing off 12.

Edenmore’s Ulster Cup team was narrowly beaten by Warrenpoint to go out at the quarter-final stage.

In the Junior Cowdy competition the result was two matches all against Rockmount at home.

The Holt Shield team have progressed to the quarter-finals of the competition and now play Belvoir after beating City of Belfast.

Stephanie Watson, with 37 points, won the qualifying event in the ladies section for the 3Ts Charity Stableford competition.

She will now join the men’s aualifier and the club pro Andrew Manson later in the season.

Saturday’s Stableford Competition was won by Heather Patterson, 36 points, who beat Debbie McMaster into second place.

Edenmore are holding a ladies and men’s open competition on Wednesday, August 4, and a mixed open on Sunday, August 15. A timesheet is currently open for bookings.
