Ex-striker to miss tonight's friendly

THE annual 'Billy Kee Memorial' match between Institute and Derry City takes place at the Riverside Stadium tonight (Wednesday - KO 7.45pm).

The match, which it is hoped will attract a large crowd, was also organised as part of the deal which took ex-'Stute centre-back Mark Scoltock to the Brandywell.

Institute boss John Gregg is expected to field a youthful side, after his team played Dungannon Swifts last night in the Carling Premiership.

"The last two years we have been working very hard on our academy and have brought through the likes of Joe McCready and Conor Deane, so supporters will get the chance to see both fringe and academy player; nevertheless Stephen Kenny was expecting a tough game and that's what I think it will be.

"It's also an important game for the Kee family. Although I didn't know Billy, I do know that he put a lot into where Institute are today, so it's great that the club play this match every year.

"Having also spoken to Paul (Kee) at the Legends event recently, he talked about how much not just Institute but football in general meant to his father, so as I have said it's super that the two senior clubs in the city play each other in his memory."

For Stephen Kenny, he admits he will be using somewhat of an experimental side as he prepares for life in the First Division next season.

"We will be somewhat experimental in regards our squad and giving a few teenagers matches, so that we can iron out any mistakes which we might make," he said.

"I have organised six tough friendlies starting with Institute, then we have Galway United, Sporting Fingal, Dundalk, Newry City and Sligo Rovers, they are going to be tough games for us but that is what I wanted."

The Brandywell men have only just returned from their training camp in Enfield at the weekend, and unfortunately former 'Stute striker Stephen Parkhouse will miss this evening's friendly after picking up a medial ligament injury during their training session in County Meath.

"Stephen has a slight medial ligament strain and we'll have to wait and see how bad it is, but he'll be out for a few weeks," said Kenny.

"The players will be glad to finally get playing a match, because they have put in a lot of hard work in these last few weeks; the training camp in Meath was very good and it was good to show the new players and young players the intensity of what we do at training and what is expected off them."
