Excellent conditions for Saturday's Portrush parkrun

The low tide left the conditions underfoot quite firm, but the onshore wind added a distinct chill factor to the temperature. The runners faced a stiff breeze for most of the outward leg, then reaped the benefits on the return! Those, that is who paced themselves properly or, even better, enjoyed a “tow” into the headwind, especially behind a figure larger than themselves, such as the excellent Kyle Leckey!

Keith Forgrave was congratulated on his nomination as Portrush parkrunner of the month for February and Emer Thompson, along with sons Daniel and Rory, were all congratulated on completing their 50th parkrun.

First finisher was first timer, Matthew McCombe in 19.39 and first lady ( for the 13th time) was Julie Murphy of Lagan Valley AC in 20.39. First home for Springwell were Jimmy Stewart and Karen McLaughlin, both running well in the difficult conditions.

This week there were 130 runners, of whom 18 were first timers and 23 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 9 different athletics clubs took part.

Meanwhile, on Sunday promising younster Dale Corbett finished third in the last of the Finn Valley 5k series, while Cloughmills man Steven Magill also turned in an excellent performance at the final event.
