Excellent Reserve form continues

GLENAVON'S excelling reserve side continued their great form with a 2-1 win over Dungannon Swifts at Stangmore Park last Thursday.

Gerard McMahon’s youthful team are still sitting second in the league table but had to come from behind to overcome a strong Dungannon side as their boss told the ‘MAIL.’

“It was a good team performance and everybody played well really,” began McMahon.

“We were 1-0 down at half-time but I didn’t feel the need to raise my voice or anything. The team had played really well in the first half and were unfortunate to go in 1-0 down.

“We kept plugging away and got the equaliser after the hour-mark through Joe Finlay. We kept the pressure on and Gary Liggett got what turned out to be the winner but even after that we were still attacking. It was a really good performance.

“We only had Liggy and Mark Turkington playing from the senior guys whereas Dungannon had seven of their first team squad out there so I was really chuffed with our performance.”

Influential midfielder, Ciaran Doherty’s game was ended just after half-time when he sustained an ankle injury but McMahon is still hopeful that, after his return, he can make it to the first team before the end of the season.

“Unfortunately, Ciaran picked up an injury but he had been playing really well,” said McMahon.

“Technically, I think he’s the best midfielder in the club. I have a very high opinion of him. His whole attitude is really good as well.

“Hopefully he’ll only be out for about three weeks. He pulled an ankle ligament and it’s swollen up so it’s a case of waiting for that to go down at the minute.

“But hopefully we’ll see him in the first team before the end of the season because he’s definitely good enough.”
