Exciting day of racing

The 50cc class were first on the line and it was going to be anyone’s race. James Stewart, Portadown, took ultimate control and the chequered flag closely followed by Matt Boyle, Saintfield, and newcomer Luke Stockdale in third place. Girl power dominated the 55cc class with Molly Smyth, Ballynahinch, finishing first and Natasha Wilson, Dromore, a very close second but pushing the girls all the way was Portadown’s Oby Dillon who finished third.

Jamie Sterling, Coleraine, took the lead and continued over the finish line in first position with Christopher Mulholland, Newcastle, in second and Gary Shaw was a comfortable third.

Drumbo’s Ryan McCulla took the coveted podium position in the 100cc water-cooled class. Curtis Sizer, Rathfriland, and Jason Crozier, Banbridge, were both in hot pursuit to finish second and third respectively.

It was Dillons all the way in the 80cc Class with cousins Taylor and Cori battling it out for pole position with Taylor Dillon, Markethill, winning on the day, Cori Dillon took a close second and tying in third place were Dean Dillon, Moira, and Callum McCann, Aghagallon, while young Bailey Dillon finished fourth.

The 200cc Blaster class was again fast and furious with a full grid of riders all aiming for the holeshot.

Daniel Crossey gained control of the race and finished first with newcomers Mark McKay, Newcastle, and Jordan Dillon, Markethill, battling for second and third places.

Newtownards lad Blake McCormick, who took pole position overall on the day, with only wheel distance separating Darren Owens, Castlewellan who finished in second place and Cookstown’s Ciaran McCracken finishing third.

The next Round of Ulster Championship is at Tullylish on June 23 along with rouond five of the NAJQC Championship.
