Exploring heritage and traditions

This was part of a series of events across adjoining Causeway Council areas, providing an opportunity to local young people to explore the diversity of sporting heritage and traditions in the wider region.

Girls had the chance to try out both Camogie and Hockey, whilst boys had a go at both Football and Gaelic Football.

John Fall, Sports Development Manager with Ballymoney Borough Council, said he was delighted that pupils from both schools have taken part and been introduced into new sports whilst having fun and making new friendships.

Good Relations Officer, Jonny Donaghy added, “Ballymoney, Coleraine, Limavady and Moyle Councils were successful in securing additional funding from OFMDFM to develop this programme. I am confident that this will help to further encourage positive attitudes amongst young people and help create a community which promotes mutual respect and understanding.”

Participants from the Council areas of Coleraine, Ballymoney, Limavady and Moyle will come together for a final celebratory event in February. Ballymoney Mayor Bill Kennedy commented: “I commend this initiative which gives our young people the chance to experience different sports and is also an important  step in establishing stronger links between students from different schools.”
