Fancy a bowling break?

Agherton Bowling Club, Portstewart. have been taking a bowling break in Westport, Co Mayo, for many years.

They intend taking part in this well organised event this year again in the Castlecourt and Plaza hotels from Sunday 3rd November to Friday 8th November, (bowling daily except Sunday). They will be travelling by coach to the venue and there are some vacancies at this date.

This is a highly praised holiday for bowlers from all over Ireland and has been attended by many locals in the past. Non-bowling partners are welcome also and are well catered for in the hotels.

Anyone interested in taking part is invited to contact Pat Hartin, the trip organiser, on 028 27666603. The event is suitable for bowlers of all standards and the package includes five nights accommodation in five star hotel with breakfast and evening meal, including a gala banquet, dance and prizegiving. Numerous non-bowling events are organised during the week which do not clash with the bowling.

Portstewart’s BIG Car boot Sale on 4th May

Meanwhile, the annual Car Boot Sale promoted by Agherton Bowling Club, Portstewart, takes place on Saturday 4 May. As usual the event will be held both indoor and outdoors at the Parish Centre in Church Street (beside the Montagu Nursing Home and public car park).

Inside space for this popular event is in demand and should be booked early. There are adequate pitches available outside which can be taken on the morning of the sale without booking. The cost is £5 per table or pitch. The sale commences at 9am and continues until 1pm. For further details ring 028 27666603. This is Bank Holiday week-end so there should be plenty of bargain hunters!

Every year the event has grown in popularity and this year’s event is creating keen interest. With the friendly atmosphere prevailing this is the ideal opportunity for anyone wishing to try car booting for the first time. Also it is the chance for local organisations to raise some funds. Many sellers will be returning for their lOth successive year.

As usual there will be a Coffee Morning in the adjoining hall with no admission charge for either event. So whether you are looking for a bargain; browsing around or fancy some nice home baked goodies please support this event. This is the Bowling Club’s only fundraising event each year and organisers are hoping for a good degree of support from the community in general. It is hoped other sale organisers will not clash with this date.
