Fantastic end to season for Ballymoney hockey ladies

BALLYMONEY manager Liz Lamont was the happiest woman in the Toon on Saturday night as her hockey girls brought home the Ulster Shield with a 1-0 win against old rivals Pegasus.writes Nevin Farrell.

By Ballymoney’s own high standards the 2012-13 season had been disappointing up until the weekend but the team ended on a high by taking the honours at Lisnagarvey on Saturday and the Ulster Shield had pride of place at the club’s awards night that evening in Ma Kelly’s pub which Liz co-owns.

Captain Suzie Sneddon’s penalty corner strike was the difference on the day and manager Lamont says they will be up for more success next season.

Liz told the Times: “This is the second time we have won the Ulster Shield in three years and it shows the club is progressing in the right direction.

“It was a brilliant day on Saturday for the club and I would like to thank our coach Mark Evans who has put in a lot of time and effort into the club and also thank the players and the whole squad for their hard work and dedication.

“It was great to get some silverware at the end of the season and we want some more of that next term,” said Lamont.
