Fantastic Finnegans win at Royal Portrush

FOUR ball better ball was the format for the LMS Trophy at Royal Portrush Golf Club on Saturday and father and son duo John Finnegan (8) and John Finnegan junior (1) took the plaudits with a super score of 42 points.

They scored 24 points on the way out with birdies from John junior at two and nine and senior at the third.

The pace slowed slightly on the back nine and added a further 18 to total 42, only one in front of James (Jock) P. Boyle and Alan McCluney on 41.

Jock eagled the par five second but several bogeys cost them their chance of glory.

Colin Darragh and Bobby Tennant were pipped on countback and slipped into third place. Colin posted birdies at five and eight while Bobby added further birdies at two three and six to conclude with 41 points.
