Fernlea Jacko shows way home

THE NIPA were in Roscrea for the third race of the season. The birds were liberated at 12 midday into a light SSE wind and a fast race was on the cards .

Ballycarry – 1. and 2. Arthurs and George. 3. A Cooke 1614, 4. NJ Arthurs 1613 . The top racing duo are back on top this week pushing last week’s victor into third spot with the ever-present Nigel making up the frame.

Bryan and Mervyn have the birds racing out of their skins and record their third win on the trot. Hot on their heels this week is last season’s premier loft Sammy and Alan Rodney and these guys are determined on a win before long. The Lawrie father/son partnership are also racing well and make the prizes this week yet again, having been in the frame in the opening three races of the programme.

The Armstrongs come out in force this week taking the top three positions in the club. Super flying against top competition .

Cushendall 9/145 1, 2 and 3. M and S McDonnell 1609, 1601, 1581; 4. Leonard McKeegan. The brothers top the club this week taking the top three positions. Their winner was a yearling cock , flying natural, bred from a pair of Willy Jacobs purchased from Mr and Mrs Gerald Delaney. The runner-up was their good two-year-old red Busschaert cock, their very first winner. It was a good day for the lads for they also won the club knock-out .

A good win this week for Owen and Pat and a top result within the section. This week’s winner is a yearling widowhood Soontjens cock and was a previous winner of fourth and fifth club in the two previous races this season .

Glengormley – 14/310 1 and 2. D and J Campbell and Bigger 1651 1649; 3 and 4. G and M Atcheson 1638 1628. A super result this week for the top racing partnership. This week’s winning bird and likely Section C winner is a fantastic racer. Known as “Fernlea Jacko”. This cock is a fantastic racer winning a number of top positions including first section Tullamore and first section Yearling Cocks National. This week’s win should bring “Fernlea Jacko” wins to 3 x 1st Section – A “ Fantastic Racer” and one you would dream to own – The second placed bird and another that will figure high in the section result, is directly off the famous “Broken Keeled Cock”. Taking the next two positions is Michael timing two of his “Soontjen Specials”.

Larne and District HPS – 42/959 1. GK and I Moxham 1650, 1 2nd S and W Gray 1635, 3. Marshall & Wilson 1634.7, 4. AS McNaghten 1631, G, K and I Moxham takes the red card with a direct daughter off their national winner ‘Millbrae Boy’ when paired to another of their good Williamson hens and for good measure they also take fifth. Second goes to S and W Gray with their R&B Smyth Van Reet, this yearling cock was a winner as a young bird and was well fancied. Third goes to Marshall and Wilson with a three-year-old Van Loon A S McNaghten is fourth with the same hen who took first last week..

Ligoniel and District – 34/669 1. E. Heaney and Sons 1648.9, 2 and 3. Watt & Miskimmon 1635 , 1634; 4. T. Davidson 1634. This week’s winner is a super racing pigeon having previously won fourth and eighth club the previous two weeks. The winner is a yearling blue cock, flown roundabout and is bred from stock obtained from Bob McMeekin, Kingsmoss, from his top winning Leo Van Rijn family. Rolenco Lofts take the next two positions with “Rolenco Saffron” last week’s runner-up the same this week with another up and coming Rolenco champ hot on his heels to take third spot.

The Fanciers Combine: An open race will take place on Bank Holiday, Monday, May 3 from Kildare. Ringing will take place on the morning of the race in Edgarstown HPS clubrooms, Portadown from 7.30am to 9am. Racers 1 per bird no limit, trainers 30p. 5 Nom, 2 cuts 60 per cent, 40 per cent.

Prize money pro rata to the number of entries. Open to all organisations, all fanciers welcome.
