Ferreria on form for U14s

Dromore U14s didn’t let the damp conditions deter them from securing a fine win against Antrim Rovers on Saturday.

The side started off confidently with some neat and fast-flowing football from the backline and through the midield, who in turn released the forwards to rain down on the Antrim goal.

The Dromore defence still had to be alert though as the visitors had three great chances to open the scoring on the counter attack. Antrim were denied by the breath-taking display of keeper Miguel Ferreria who he made a strong dive at the attacker’s feet when he had raced clear of the defence.

Next up was a fine save with strong hands from close range but the highlight of his first half was a penalty save. Ferreria dived to his right and brilliantly palmed away the spot-kick. This gave Dromore an added spring to their step and Odhran Crozier opened the scoring just before half-time with a great effort from 30 yards that sailed over the Antrim keeper’s head.

The second-half continued from where the first had left off with Oliver McLuckie and Ben Hanna now creating havoc in the middle of the park with good ball control and distribution. Hanna added a second goal midway through the half. His Coach thought he had lost the chance to score but he fooled everyone, expertly dragging the ball back from the onrushing defender to slide the ball into the net.

Lewis Sinclair added the third goal as he beat the Antrim defender to get his foot on a great right-wing cross and poke home from close range.

It was a really good showing of attacking play from the whole team with fine performances from Oliver McLuckie, Ben Hanna and Odhran Crozier. He was just pipped to the man of the match award by goalkeeper Miguel Ferreria who gave a whirlwind performance, capped off by his crucial penalty save.
