Finaghy reach Intermediate Cup final

FINAGHY 85 NEWRY 74 FINAGHY reached the final of the NIBA Intermediate Cup with a fine 11 shots win over Newry at Lurgan on Wednesday night.

They reached the final back in 1999 and also appeared in two Junior Cup finals without success. They will be hoping for better luck on Friday, July 23 when they play Sandown in the final at a venue to be arranged.

At the tenth John Campbell was 10-6 ahead but Newry level at 11-11 after 15 ends. But Finaghy finished strongly to win by nine shots.

Ronnie Mudd was 15-7 ahead at the tenth and he increased his advantage to 21-9 by 15 ends but lost ground over the closing stages though winning by four shots.

Down 6-17 at the tenth John Moore pulled back to 14-19 by 15 ends and after a highly competitive last six ends Finaghy lost by six shots.

At the tenth Stanley Doggart was down 10-11 but he came back to lead 17-14 at 15 ends and went on to win by four shots.
