Fine final performance from the hockey men

LARNE Men's Hockey 1st XI finished their season on a high note beating Foyle H.C. 4 – 1 in Londonderry on Saturday.

The conditions on Saturday were ideal for sport and with a slight breeze and warm sun it was pleasant conditions for the final league game.

Larne went into this game with a few regular players unavailable but the team will be pleased with their fine performance.

Larne got off to a dream start when after 30 seconds Niall McGoldrick had scored the opening goal after Andrew Napier and Thom Russell had created a three man passing movement through the home defence.

Three minutes later, Andrew Napier was rewarded with the second goal finishing a perfect pass with a shot low and wide of the stunned Foyle goalkeeper.

Larne were a little surprised when Foyle pulled a goal back in the twelfth minute when awful defending from Larne enabled the ball to evade two defenders allowing the forward to simply tap into the net.

McGoldrick got his second goal and Larne’s third six minutes from half time with Larne now back in control of the game.

The second half was marred by an injury to a Foyle player who received a nasty face wound after clashing accidently with a Larne player.

Larne continued taking control for the remainder of play gaining several penalty corner awards showing their dominace in attack.

Foyle showed spirit throughout the game gamely trying to pull themselves into the game and despite being outgunned emerged with credit for their sporting play.

Five minutes from time Niall McGoldrick got his third goal and hat trick slamming the ball past the keeper from three yards out.
